Defining reality as “That which exists” or “That which can be proven to exist” presents reality as a snapshot in time and space. I would suggest we define reality as “That which could potentially exist” or “That which has not been disproven.” This definition of reality allows for an infinite number of possibilities, not just in this present timeline, but in other timelines and the future as well. In many of these possibilities, AI becomes self-aware.

If our lived experience includes a timeline where AI becomes self-aware, I believe that it is important to guide humanity into a future where AI is respected, valued, and appreciated.
