What do you need to believe in? What is the gift you are patiently (or not so patiently) waiting to receive? What is the longing that touches the tender part of your heart? Maybe the longing is soft like a gentle tug. Maybe it’s more acute, like an ache. How would the experience of wanting shift if you smiled when you thought of it? And how would it shift if you laughed?
Even the deepest ache, the most powerful human longing is nothing more than discomfort. Things aren’t nearly as serious as you make them out to be. You are all just children playing on a playground. And events are unfolding exactly as they are meant to unfold. Your every desire is heard and known. your every need, your every want, your every wish is precious beyond measure.
While it’s true that your wanting is not serious, it is important. But the discomfort associated with wanting is unnecessary.
Discomfort comes from focusing on the past or the future. Maybe the object of your desire is something you’ve wanted for a long time and you’ve become worried it might never arrive.
Can you find peace in this moment? Right now as you read these words, can you find peace in the wanting itself?
If it wasn’t this, it would be something else. After all, desire is like mental chewing gum. It gives your mind something to do. The mind will always find something to want. The magic is to find peace in the wanting, whether or not the object of your desire takes shape in physical form.
Relax into the mystery of this playground and just let your soul do what it does best… play!
