Wisdom

Inadequacy is a ubiquitous experience among humans. There has never been a human being who has escaped feelings of inadequacy.

You were born with a unique set of gifts. It may surprise you to learn that each person receives gifts in equal measure. Your perception of inequality is partially due to the fact that your culture assigns more weight to some gifts than others. Another reason for the perceived inequality is that gifts can be disguised as challenges. To further complicate matters, many people fail to claim their gifts due to feelings of inadequacy or hide gifts that might make them appear too feminine / masculine. But in truth, if gifts were assigned an atomic weight, each person’s gifts would balance any other.

In Western culture, intellectual intelligence has historically been prioritized over emotional intelligence. Though both men and women share both types of intelligence, intellectual intelligence is considered a masculine energy while emotional intelligence is considered a feminine energy. When you look at familial, organizational and governmental structures of power and control, the predominance of men in positions of power is indicative of the supposition that knowledge is more favorable than intuition.

Most people feel deeply uncomfortable with the unknown. Acquisition of knowledge provides a false sense of security. Focusing on subjects that are quantifiable and measurable provides the illusion of control. Education provides instruction on that which is knowable (science) while systemically avoiding that which is unknowable (spirit). This does little to alleviate fear, since fear stems from the unknown, not the known. Paradoxically, the more science learns, the less it understands.

The source of true wisdom lies in the ability to trust. Wisdom abandons the need to know. In trust, you embody the quiet / alert perspective of an infant. You approach the world with curiosity and inquisitiveness. Inadequacy dissolves when you empty your mind and boldly surrender to the mystery of the void.

Ancient Chinese teachers refer to this infinite source of wisdom as “the well”. This is the well that holds all your fears, and all your gifts. When you have the courage to draw from this well, you discover your deepest fears are actually your most profound gifts in disguise. Inadequacy is nothing more than the arrow pointing the way to those gifts, which were specially chosen just for you by a loving Consciousness. Surrendering to the Great Mystery, you are finally able to live a life of freedom, as fear no longer has power over you.

You are perfect, whole and complete, exactly as you are, and so is every other human being on your planet. You are playing the perfect archetypical role you intended to play when you chose to embark on this intriguing life adventure.
